hmm,
ppl should listen to songs where the lyrics are in a language which you don't know, are unfamiliar with, one you really need to think about to understand, or one where you can't really say in your mind aka probably not ur first or 2nd language... that way, instead of u actually thinking about the lyrics while listening, which most are unaware of but are, the lyrics become part of the music itself, and helps in making the melody even better...
it's a lot better not thinking about a song and just letting it ring through ur head instead of listening to something where ur trying to comprehend what the lyrics are

I see what you mean, but there are some songs that, with the right voice, can appear to go with perfect tune with the melody. I've encountered this when listening to the Cranberries. But yeah, sometimes listening to Japanese songs and not understanding a word does seem to add appreciation to the music. ^^
